Welcome back to The 94 Method.

Issue #21. One practice, one deep dive, the week in wellness, and a moment to reset.

This week: why five minutes outside before 9 changes your whole day, what heat actually does inside your body, what's moving in wellness, and the mindset that keeps you showing up before the results do.

Let's get into it.

The Practice

Step Outside.

The mornings are getting darker. You’ve noticed. The alarm goes off, and it still feels like night.

Your body notices too. Less morning light makes it harder to fully wake up. Energy drags. Sleep gets messy. And on November 1, the clocks fall back and shift everything again.

This week’s practice is simple: get outside before 9 a.m. Five minutes. Every day.

Here’s why it works. Morning light is the strongest signal your internal clock gets. It tells your body the day has started. That sharpens your energy now and sets a timer for later, so you get sleepy at the right time tonight. Better mornings lead to better nights.

What counts:
Coffee on the porch. You’re already drinking it. Drink it outside.
Walk the dog. Take the long way.
Park farther away. Walk the extra minute to the door.
Stand in the driveway. Seriously. Five minutes.

A few rules. No sunglasses. Don’t stare at the sun. Just be in it.

Cloudy? Still counts. A gray sky outside is far brighter than any room in your house.

Looking through a window doesn’t count. Glass filters out most of what you need.

You don’t need a new routine. Take something you already do every morning and move it outside.

Five minutes. Outside. Before 9. That’s it.

Worth Knowing

What Heat Actually Does

Most people think sauna is about relaxing. Sweat a little. Feel good. Go home.

That’s part of it. The real story is what happens inside.

Sit in the heat and your body gets to work. Your core temperature climbs. Your heart rate rises, often into the same range as a brisk walk. Blood vessels open up to move heat toward your skin. You’re sitting still, but your cardiovascular system is training.

That’s the key. Heat is a stressor. A good one. Your body responds to it the way it responds to exercise. It adapts.

So what does that mean for you?

Your heart gets stronger. Every session, your blood vessels practice expanding and relaxing. Over time, they get better at it. Flexible vessels mean less strain on your heart and healthier blood pressure. Cardio benefits, sitting down. No running shoes required.

You sweat. A lot. And that’s a good thing. Sweat carries out small amounts of stuff your body doesn’t need. Your liver and kidneys still run the main detox show. Heat just gives them backup. You walk out feeling clean, inside and out. Clear head. Loose body. Lighter than when you walked in. That feeling alone is why most people come back.

You recover faster. Heat prompts your body to make heat shock proteins. Think of them as a repair crew for stressed cells, including muscle. Add the extra blood flow and sore legs bounce back quicker. Hard week of training? This is where you get it back.

You sleep deeper. An evening session raises your body temperature. Afterward, it drops. That drop is one of the signals your body uses to wind down. Sauna nights tend to be good nights.

So where does infrared fit?

A traditional sauna heats the air, often to 170 degrees or more. Infrared warms your body more directly at a lower air temperature, usually in the 120s to 150s. You still sweat. Your heart rate still climbs. But the air is easier to breathe and the session is easier to stay in. No gasping for air. No counting down the minutes. For a lot of people, that’s the difference between going once and going every week.

And every week is the point. Not one heroic session. Consistency.

A few reminders before your session:
Hydrate before and after. You lose more water than you think.
Start with 20 minutes. Build from there.
Skip the alcohol beforehand. Heat and alcohol don’t mix.
Find your routine. After a workout for recovery. In the evening for sleep.

Start with one to three sessions a week. Build towards what works best for you. Pick the days now and put them on your calendar.

The weather is turning cold. This is the season heat earns its place. Your body is built to adapt to it. Give it the chance.

What’s Moving in Wellness

Creatine added lean tissue in adults 45 to 65, even without training.
In a 12-week study of 64 adults, 10 grams a day added about 2.4 pounds of lean tissue on its own. Pairing it with lifting and cardio brought bigger strength gains.

Tonal strength machines are moving into WeWork. Tonal 2 units are going into nine WeWork locations across California, Washington, Oregon, and Texas. Another sign fitness is becoming part of the workday.

Nonalcoholic social tonic Hiyo raises $20M, led by Constellation Brands.
The maker of Corona and Modelo is backing the alcohol-free drink. Hiyo expects to sell over 1 million cases this year and reach more than 13,000 retail doors.

Mindset Moment

❝

“Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines, practiced every day.”

Jim Rohn

Nobody gets fit in one workout. Nobody sleeps better after one good night. The big changes don’t come from big moments. They come from small things you keep doing when nobody’s watching.

That’s the hard part. Simple isn’t the same as easy. Day one feels great. Day four, you’re tired. Day nine, you skip. And somewhere in there, most people decide it isn’t working.

It is working. It just doesn’t show yet.

Five minutes outside every morning. A few sessions in the heat each week. On their own, none of it looks like much. Stack them up for a month and you’re a different person. Better sleep. Steadier energy. A body that recovers.

You don’t need more motivation. You need to show up again tomorrow.

So what’s the one simple thing you’ll keep doing this week, even on the days you don’t feel like it?

This week’s reflection: Where have you quit right before it started working?

Move better. Feel better. Live better.
